Review:

Sometimes I really like having something to read that is quick, cute, and funny.  His Boss Lady by Emily Walker was exactly that! The book starts off with business woman Emma Michaels who is expecting to work with a new female intern.  After a little mix-up, Emma ends up with hottie Tyler Higgins as her new intern.  Emma likes being the one calling the shots, but Tyler enjoys toying with her plans just a bit.  Tyler cracked me up when he went head-to-head with Emma on some of their work adventures.

They liked pulling pranks on one another, but also did some pretty nasty things to each other that started a few arguments and caused resentment.  Even with all that, there is of course a lot of sexual tension and chemistry going on between the two.

There is a moment when something goes terribly wrong and you see how Tyler puts everything to the side to console Emma when she needs a shoulder to cry on.  I really liked how the relationship blossomed.  In fact, I liked it so much that I was kind of disappointed when things got pretty hot and heavy, it was over before you blinked!  With it being such a quick read, I just wanted more of these two crazy people!  Pretty predictable, but if you are looking for a fast-paced romantic comedy, this one might be for you!

Review:

Ok, so first let me go over the things that I really liked about this book.  Ms. Belvin does a fine job of putting you in the character’s shoes and experiencing the ups and downs of their lives.  At the beginning of Love Lost, Rayna Brimm goes through all kinds of lows in the projects with failed and broken relationships with her boyfriend and family members.  She attempts to get away from that life by moving to North Carolina to attend college and starts up a great friendship with Michelle.  After graduation, Rayna and Michelle begin a new chapter in their lives by moving to Los Angeles and getting a job as a physical therapist.  Through this job she meets the handsome and dashing Azmir Jacobs.

“When I make love…I take my time.  I like to look…touch and explore.  I try to take in the whole experience because making love for a man like me is extremely rare.  A man makes love to a woman he cares about and wants to join in on the experience.  When you’re doing it, you don’t rush…you take your time to satisfy all your senses…what you see.  What you touch.  What you feel.  What you hear.  I love the sounds of making love.”

Pretty quickly they begin going out on dates, but Rayna doesn’t want to rush things because of her past shady relationships.  You get a little bit of Azmir’s perspective, but I couldn’t figure out why he held back so much also.  He feels differently about Rayna, not like any feelings of his past girlfriends.  Things start to get hot….and boy, is it hot!  A couple problems pop up for Azmir and Rayna has a difficult time believing that she is worthy of love.

“Just be real with me.  Nothing else tops that.  And treat me like your equal; not a deficient partner.  Don’t feel that my “place” or “part” is any less important than yours.  If you can give me truth then you’re giving me unlimited opportunities that can include loving you completely or walking away with my dignity intact.  That’s all.”

Azmir showers her with gifts because of the feelings he has for her, but Rayna does not want to feel like a charity case.  She is a strong and independent woman and doesn’t want to feel like she needs taken care of.  It was mentioned from time to time that Azmir and Rayna identified with each other because they shared having different sides to themselves.  This confused me a little because it was almost like seeing different characters.  When I felt like Rayna was one person, she acted like another.  The end of this book leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions.  This first book is more of an introduction to the characters.  Overall, even though I felt like the story was just an okay read…I understand that it is only getting started!  I know for a fact that others will find this first book (and continuing the series) a fantastic read!

Review of Back to You by Priscilla Glenn

Back to You by Priscilla Glenn

Rating: 4 Lovin’ It panty rating!

Synopsis:
When Lauren Monroe first laid eyes on Michael Delaney back in high school, she had every reason to stay away from him; within minutes of their first encounter, his volatile actions confirmed his notorious reputation. But Lauren saw something in him that caused her to question his bad-boy persona, and against her better judgment, she took a chance. She had no way of knowing that the unlikely friendship they formed would become so important to her.

Or that it would end so painfully.

Eight years later, when Lauren begins her new job at Learn and Grow Day Care, Michael is the last person she expects to see. Refusing to revisit the hurt and confusion of their past, Lauren vows to keep her distance from him. But staying away from Michael proves to be more difficult than she thought, despite her lingering grief and her instincts for self-preservation.

As Lauren and Michael recall the friendship that changed them forever and the events that tore them apart, will they finally be able to heal? Or will the ghosts of Michael’s past prove to be too much to overcome?

Review:
I decided to read this book by Ms. Glenn because of the high ratings I had seen on Goodreads from some of my friends.  Typically sweet romance books aren’t exactly my thing, but I am so glad I read this one!
What I loved most were the characters…you will fall in absolute love with them!  Lauren is a smart, sensitive, and loyal friend to Michael Delaney (Del).  The story takes you back and forth from past to present so you can see how their friendship grows into something really special and the years of hurt that can possibly destroy everything.  This story is all about redemption.

“Everyone deserved the chance to be redeemed, and Michael had gone his whole life never having it.  He never got to redeem himself with his father.  He never got to redeem himself with his brother.  And if he was trying to redeem himself now for what he’d done to her, then she was going to let him, even if it left her vulnerable.”
Years later, after high school and the conflicting feelings that the couple go through, Lauren and Michael try to figure out what exactly happened to their friendship.

“I always knew I would fall in love with you,” he said softly, “but you were never supposed to love me back.”

I was so happy with how the story progressed.  Unfortunately, I just wanted a little more at the end of the story.  I feel like the ending seemed rushed.  I will definitely be looking for more of Ms. Glenn’s writing!

Review of Bad Things by R.K. Lilley

Bad Things by R.K. Lilley

Rating: 5 drop'em like their hot panty rating

 Synopsis:

Danika hasn’t had an easy life. Being insanely attracted to bad boys has never helped make it easier.

One look at Tristan, and every brain cell she possessed went up in smoke. This man was trouble with a capital T. It was a given.
She knew better. Bad boys were bad. Especially for her. Considering her history, it was crazy to think otherwise. So why did crazy have to feel so damn fine?

For as long as she could remember, Danika had been focused on the future with single-minded purpose. Tristan came along and taught her everything there was to know about letting go, and living in the present. She fell, hard and deep. Of course, that only made her impact with the ground that much more devastating.

Bad Things is about Tristan and Danika, and their train wreck of a love story. This series can be read as a standalone, or with the Up in the Air series.

Review:

When I read the Up In The Air series by R.K. Lilley I was instantly intrigued by Tristan and Danika’s characters.  These two are the headliners this go around and they bring their A game.
Danika is the beautiful female lead.  She comes from an abusive background and it shows in her choice of always picking the bad boy.  She has learned that the more stability she has in her life, the better.…… Well then along comes resident bad boy Tristan.

Hold on to your panties ladies, this man is smoking hot!!  If his good looks and charm didn’t reel you in, maybe his ability to make a scrumptious chocolate chip cookie will!

He’s a mean machine in the kitchen and his specialties are cookies and good old greasy hangover breakfasts.  He’s got the whole package folks!
Tristan and Danika immediately strike up a fast friendship.  The chemistry these two people have together is amazing.  The way they play off of each other and interact really draws you into the story.  Little by little Danika's outlook starts to crumble as Tristan teaches her to live more in the moment and to just cut loose.
The first part of the story is them developing a deep level of friendship, but as you are reaching the halfway point it becomes very apparent that something is gonna have to give because the sexual tension is thick, let me tell ya.

“I want you to let go.  I want you to submit.  I want to make you lose your mind.  I want you to be so far gone that the only word left in your vocabulary is my name.”  Tristan Vega

Wowzers, when Ms. Lilley breaks that tension she knows what she’s doing.  Let’s just say that there’s a scene in a parking garage, with a hot car, and rain…..something similar to this.

By this point I was so into the depths of the story I came out on the other end and I'm pretty sure I looked a little like this.....

Tristan has his share of ghosts from the past to deal with also.  Because of a failed relationship he has commitment issues; this brings around baggage that he has to work through before he can fully commit to Danika.  Between the two of them, they finally get everything worked out and this first installment doesn’t end on a cliffhanger relationship wise.

In reading the Up In The Air series, we know some of Tristan and Danika’s history.  Even though this first book ended with a good air, we know these two have some “oh shit” moments ahead of them.  Even if you haven’t read UITA that’s ok, there are no spoilers in Bad Things.  There are characters from UITA that make appearances which I really liked.  (Who doesn’t love James Cavendish????)  I personally liked reading UITA first, then moving on to Bad Things.
The second book in this series is called Rock Bottom and is coming soon.  CAN. NOT. WAIT!!!
